Is Julian Dicks harder than Vinny Jones?

Stupid question I know, but someone asked Dicksy this on twatter. I thought his response was worth sharing with a wider audience.

When Jones took a long throw - in in front of the Chicken Run (when it was much closer to the pitch) I managed to get a peach of a short punch into his kidneys. He threw the ball completely at random as he couldn't get away from the sidelines quick enough.

Nothing of note there though- he took a clump off a supporter every time he took a throw. That was one of the joys of the pitch being so near the fans. Disappeared when they built the new West Stand and I don't think we've been the same ever since. That was when Upton Park really got opposition arses making buttons.

Bought up fighting with his brother in a shitty part of Bristol helped his hardness cause.



I'm not sure how true that is. Dicksie's mum taught my mate, seemed to be from quite a middle class background.

The greatest and stupidest tackle I've ever seen was dicks on Dennis wise in the league cup, almost cut the little cunt in two, but was in keeping with the tone of the rest of the match. Julian deservedly got his marching orders and mad dog settled the match late on , appropriately. Think jones had left Wimbledon by then though.

I think Julian was fairer if that's the right word. I think Jones went in with the intent to hurt people, Julian went in to win the ball and if you got in the way then you got hurt. Completely different in my book.

Obviously on the odd occasion Julian wanted to kill a few as well without going for the ball!!!

I was at a corporate bash with Ruddock as guest speaker and someone asked him if Jones was the hardest player he ever come up against, he just laughed.

Roy Keane was the one they all feared on the pitch

I remember Peter Butler repeatedly hammering into Vinnie Jones away at Selhurst one year, you never saw Jones after that. I think it genuinely shocked him. Tough little bastard was Butler.

Imagine a player of both there types running around the premiership. Be carnage , in between the red cards.
